What Bluetooth trackers can and cannot do
Bluetooth trackers do not have GPS. They report their position when they come within range of a phone running the same network — roughly 10–70 metres depending on obstacles. In a busy city that network is dense enough to be useful; in a rural area it may never report at all.
They are excellent for finding keys in the house and reasonable for luggage in transit. They are not a vehicle tracker and should not be relied on as a security device.
Compatibility matters
Check which ecosystem a tracker uses before ordering. Apple's Find My network only works with iPhones; Google's Find My Device network needs Android. A tracker on the wrong network will have almost no coverage.
Batteries
Most use a CR2032 coin cell lasting around a year. Check whether the battery is user-replaceable — some sealed units must be thrown away when depleted. Coin cells are extremely dangerous if swallowed; keep trackers away from small children and check the battery compartment is secured.
