For notebooks, paper weight is the specification worth checking. Below 80 gsm, fountain pen and marker ink bleeds through; 100 gsm and above handles most pens cleanly on both sides of the page.

For pens, check the refill availability and tip size — 0.5 mm suits small handwriting, 0.7 mm is the general-purpose default.
