Ring lights and continuous lighting for video

Ring lights suit face-on video and portraits because they produce even, shadowless light and a distinctive circular catchlight in the eyes. They are less useful for product photography, where directional light shows texture better.

What to check

• Diameter — 25–30 cm suits phone video at desk distance; 45 cm and above is needed if you are further back or want softer light
• Colour temperature — adjustable bi-colour (roughly 3,000–6,000K) lets you match room lighting, which matters when daylight and lamps mix
• CRI — colour rendering index above 90 means skin tones and product colours reproduce accurately. Below 80, everything looks slightly off
• Power — USB-powered lights are portable but dimmer; mains-powered are brighter and more consistent

Check the thread size on stands and clamps, and confirm the phone or camera holder fits your device with its case on. Weight matters — a light head heavier than the stand rating will tip.
