Setting up a workspace that does not hurt

Desk height matters more than desk size. With your forearms on the surface, elbows should sit at roughly 90 degrees with shoulders relaxed. Most fixed desks are 72–75 cm, which suits people around 175 cm tall; shorter users usually need a footrest, taller users a higher surface.

Screen top at eye level, an arm's length away. A laptop on a desk forces the neck down all day — a stand plus separate keyboard fixes it cheaply.

Load and stability

Check the stated weight capacity against what you will actually put on it, including monitors and their stands. For sit-stand desks, check the lifting capacity separately from the static capacity, and confirm the height range covers your standing elbow height.

Cable management

Worth planning before assembly rather than after. Trays, clips and sleeves are far easier to fit while the desk is upside down.
