Cleaning

Tools that actually save time

Cleaning equipment is worth judging on how quickly it dries, how easily it is cleaned itself, and whether the consumable parts are replaceable.

Microfibre outperforms cotton on most surfaces and needs no chemicals for general dusting, but it must be washed without fabric softener — softener clogs the fibres and destroys the effect permanently.

Spin and flat mops are easier to wring and dry faster than string mops, which matters because a mop that stays damp between uses grows bacteria and starts to smell.

Check the replaceables

Before buying anything with a head, pad or filter, check whether replacements are actually available. A mop with a proprietary head that cannot be replaced is a short-life purchase.

A safety note

Never mix bleach with any product containing ammonia or acid — including many limescale and drain treatments. The combination releases toxic gas. Use one product, rinse thoroughly, then use another if needed.
