Check fitment before you order

Most problems with car accessories come down to fit rather than quality.

• Phone mounts — check your vent slat orientation. Horizontal-slat vents need a different clip design from vertical, and round vents suit neither. Adhesive dashboard mounts do not hold on textured or leather dashboards.
• Seat covers — check whether your seats have integrated side airbags. Universal covers can obstruct deployment and should not be fitted over airbag seams.
• 12V accessories — confirm whether your socket stays live with the ignition off, as anything left plugged in can drain the battery.
• Boot organisers — measure your boot floor, particularly depth under the parcel shelf.

Interior lighting

Ambient and footwell lighting is popular but check your local road rules before fitting anything visible from outside the vehicle. Many jurisdictions restrict the colours permitted on a moving car, particularly blue and red, which are reserved for emergency vehicles. USB-powered strips are simpler to fit than hardwired kits and can be removed without trace, which matters on a leased or financed vehicle.
